Not your best transvestite outfit, but the tent variety, any associated gear like sleeping bags, cooking, tents etc

Well having used my Coleman Cobra 3 tent a few times now I can really recommend this tent. One of the reasons I bought it was the good reviews plus I got pissed off with clambering over all my gear trying to get in and out of my old tunnel style tent. I liked that style of tent as they are compact and quick to put up, but the Cobra 3 is so much better and apparently can take a right beating in a storm. Realistically there are a few more pegs to knock in but thats about it and only takes about 15 minutes to put up and the same to put away. It says 10 mins but you would have to rush to do that.

While the Cobra 2 is supposed to be 2 man I wouldn't want to have two in it plus packed and weight wise its not much different to the 3. The 3 is three man obviously, acres of space for one and certainly would be fine for 2. It is particularly suited to taller people as well as it has a long inner tent. The big plus for me is that the sides can be accessed from either side, but one is designed to be the main entrance. You can stick your boots or whatever in between the inner and outer tent and not be in the way in the entrance then bung all the panniers and other crap on the other side.

Fully sold on this type of tent, less than 3 kilo packed, will fit in a pannier if you want and very tough. Very much personal preference with tent design, you buy ones you can park your bike in from Vango now. Quite why you would want to escapes me and on many sites its very impractical to do so.

I picked mine up for less than £70 and was a bargain. Expect to pay about £90. BTW the Vango Banshee 300 looks to be identical and would be worth considering.

While I'm not naturally disposed to agree with anything Paul says, I begrudgingly agree that looks a great tent.

Coleman are widely regarded as both well designed and value for money.  Moreover the side opening means he can be rolled in at the end of a night when intoxicated and unable to crawl from the front.

 Good choice mate wink

I like the space. However, the footprint of the tent is huge in comparison to some 2/3 mans. Its the one I had last year and have been well pleased with it having used it a number of times. Plus its not a wrestling match to get it back in the bag and you can flatten it out to fit the curves in a pannier should you need to. Not so sure about the square section pegs though they seem to bend easy.

I have a Coleman 3 man tent but that weighs a ton and certainly wouldn't go on a bike. It's okay but some of the seams leaked when we took it to Cornwall a few weeks ago (cured, temporarily, by judicious use of Duck Tape).

The smaller Vango ones Dude and I got for the Euro trip is excellent. Porch area for kit, the 2 man one I have is a bit tight for 2 but that's a common theme on all tents I think.

I may go for something like this next time:

The Vango ones were very good and looked good quality. Not sure which model you have they do so many.

This is the one i'm using for the bike, 3.3 kg and packs away to 46-19 cm, the only down side is the price at £175 but the spec is super hi this tent will survive anything.

Looks good Hugh. Not too heavy and looked at similar before I decided on the Cobra as it was cheaper and slightly lighter. Seems the cheaper tents generally have fibre glass poles and are heavier plus they eventually break, better more expensive have hollow alloy ones. The coleman came with a couple of repair tubes for the alloy poles and glue in case you buckled one but the poles are very strong.
